Synthesis of nitrogen-doped zigzag-edge peripheries: dibenzo-9a-azaphenalene as repeating unit.

A bottom-up approach toward stable and monodisperse segments of graphenes with a nitrogen-doped zigzag edge is introduced. Exemplified by the so far unprecedented dibenzo-9a-azaphenalene (DBAPhen) as the core unit, a versatile synthetic concept is introduced that leads to nitrogen-doped zigzag nanographenes and graphene nanoribbons.

Catalyst-free bottom-up growth of graphene nanofeatures along with molecular templates on dielectric substrates.

Synthesis of graphene nanostructures has been investigated to provide outstanding properties for various applications. Herein, we report molecular thin film-assisted growth of graphene into nanofeatures such as nanoribbons and nanoporous sheets along with a predetermined molecular orientation on dielectric substrates without metal catalysts. A Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method was used for the form...

Bottom-up synthesis of high-performance nitrogen-enriched transition metal/graphene oxygen reduction electrocatalysts both in alkaline and acidic solution.

Oxygen reduction electrocatalysts with low cost and excellent performance are urgently required for large-scale application in fuel cells and metal-air batteries. Though nitrogen-enriched transition metal/graphene hybrids (N-TM/G, TM = Fe, Co, and Ni and related compounds) have been developed as novel substitutes for precious metal catalysts (PMCs) towards oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), a sig...

Hydrothermal synthesis of nitrogen doped graphene supported cobalt ferrite (NG@CoFe2O4) as photocatalyst for the methylene blue dye degradation

A magnetic NG@CoFe2O4 photocatalyst was developed via a facile hydrothermal method and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) techniques. The CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were found to have a size between 100-150 nm and were unifo...

Synthesis of structurally well-defined and liquid-phase-processable graphene nanoribbons.

The properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) make them good candidates for next-generation electronic materials. Whereas 'top-down' methods, such as the lithographical patterning of graphene and the unzipping of carbon nanotubes, give mixtures of different GNRs, structurally well-defined GNRs can be made using a 'bottom-up' organic synthesis approach through solution-mediated or surface-assist...
